Breast Augmentation – Dr. Humberto Palladino
Breast augmentation is the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedure in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of women have breast implants placed every year to enhance their femininity and boost their confidence. Dr. Humberto Palladino performs breast augmentation at his plastic surgery practice in El Paso, Texas, serving the entire Southwest.
Is Breast Augmentation Right for Me?
Breast augmentation patients typically feel their breasts are out of proportion with the rest of their bodies. You are most likely a good candidate for breast augmentation if you are in good health and have reasonable expectations of surgery. Dr. Palladino’s goal is to achieve your ideal breast size and contour so that you feel complete and confident. During a personalized interview he will go over details pertinent to your particular case, including goals and objectives, type of implant and preferred location, pre-operative and post-operative recommendations and more. Women who wish to further enhance the breasts may also undergo breast lift surgery. At the end of the initial interview you will have a clear understanding of the procedure and how it will fit and impact your lifestyle.
If you are planning to become pregnant or lose a significant amount of weight you should mention these objectives during the initial surgical consultation, as Dr. Palladino may have recommendations about the timing of your surgery.
Breast Augmentation Options
Saline and silicone implants come in round and teardrop shapes and can be filled to various volumes. They can be placed either above or beneath your chest muscle, through incisions made around the areola, under the breast crease or in the armpit.
Dr. Palladino will help you select the type of implant, placement location and incision pattern that suits your individual needs and goals, for the best cosmetic result.
Breast Augmentation Surgery
A primary breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure. The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation and takes approximately two hours to complete. You should avoid any eating or drinking at least eight hours prior to the surgery. Once in the pre-operative holding area, Dr. Palladino will place the appropriate markings to guide him during surgery and assure an optimal result. A family member or friend should stay at the facility to receive updates on the progress of your surgery, and should drive you home after the procedure.
Recovering from Breast Augmentation
Your breasts will be sore, swollen and bruised after surgery, but these side effects are temporary. Any post-operative pain can be controlled through prescription pain medication. Bending, lifting or straining should be avoided to prevent injuring the healing breast tissues. You should wear a special support bra until Dr. Palladino advises that it is safe to remove it. He will also advise when it is safe to return to work, school, exercise and everyday activities. On average, most breast augmentation patients return to work or school within a week, and to physical activity in about a month.
